The Tour Eiffel
In 1889, when the Eiffel Tower was completed, it was the tallest building in the world at 300m.
Initially built as a temporary structure to celebrate the centenary of the Revolution and the 1889 Exhibition it was due for demolition immediately after. Since then this steel structure, which defies architectural rules, has become the symbol of Paris. In the 1920's it was also the radio and telegraphy transmitter, and is now the radio and TV transmitter for Paris and its region.
The 12,000 steel girders are held together by 2,500,000 rivets and it has three viewing platforms: the 1st at 57m, the second at 115m, the third at 276m. The top of the antenna is 320m from the ground. From the 3rd platform you can see Paris and its suburbs, and on a clear day you can see Chartres Cathedral.

Grand and Petit Palais

The 1900 Exhibition saw the construction of the Grand and Petit Palais, two exhibition hall structures built in monumental style like the Eiffel Tower, considered as a folly by many at the time.
Having been the center for great annual exhibitions (Automobile Show, Ideal Home), the Grand Palais has been completely renovated. With 5,000 m2 of halls dedicated to temporary exhibitions, the National Galleries of the Grand Palais have become a cultural center. Created by André Malraux, the Galleries do not house any permanent exhibitions, their object is to show great collections on a temporary basis these are organized particularly by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, (National Museums Committee) the Association Française d'Action Artistique and the Délégation aux Arts Plastiques.
The Palace of Discovery enables us to better understand our environment, by experimenting with the great laws of science. Visitors will learn about the basics of electrostatics, radioactivity, and chemistry. Beneath the Dome, you will find the Planetarium.
The very beautiful Petit Palais, built by Charles Girault for the 1900 Exhibition, houses important collections, which offer a large panorama of artistic creation from antiquity to the beginning of the 20th century.
